With: Connagh Redmond
Time: 10.30 - 12:00
For BAB Lab 2022, scientist, bioart conservator, and artist Connagh Redmond showed us how we can appreciate the tiny flora all around us (and in us) using DIY techniques to grow and cultivate microbial gardens. Connagh took us step by step through setting up an aseptic environment to work in, creating different types of solid growth media, and sampling bacteria/fungi/other single cell organisms.
Connagh also discussed the ongoing cultivation and development of our tiny gardens, from an overgrown thicket to a proper cottage garden, and showed how anyone can submit their micro-gardens to the American Society of Microbiology Contest in America.
