“In the Western tradition there is a recognised hierarchy of beings... But in Native ways of knowing, human people are often referred to as “the younger brothers of Creation”. We say that humans have the least experience with how to live and thus the most to learn.”

Bioarts should be a place where everyone of all abilities and experience can explore, play and make with creative people utilising arts and sciences to create exciting outcomes with positive applications. The term bioart can feel inaccessible to many, but BAB Lab wants to help shed some of the barriers which may prevent anyone taking part in exploring art and science by fostering a community of care, sharing, and learning.
Everything we do and learn through BAB Lab should be able to be reproduced with minimal cost and without specialised equipment. Our aim to promote science that can be done safely and easily from your home, kitchen, or garden, using things you likely already have around you.
BAB Lab will a programme of many firsts, from artists trying something entirely new, to people finding out about Bioart for the first time. Things won’t always be right straight away, but BAB Lab is open to learning just as much from you about where it can do better, be more respectful, or think about things from new perspectives.
